This is a great opportunity for a Yard Manager / Transport Manager to be responsible for the overall management of the yard and HGV transport for this extremely well-established company.

Responsibilities include but not limited to managing goods and plant in and out of the yard, arranging deliveries via their own HGV vehicles, managing records for delivery vehicles and general maintenance of equipment. The person will also be responsible for basic general maintenance of the office, stores and yard.


- The successful candidate will have experience in similar role / managing and operating tools, plant, equipment, warehouse/ yard duties, stock control and operating small HGV fleet within FORS operators scheme.
- Maintain all records relating to operating a small HGV fleet (3 HGV vehicles + LGV) operating under the FORS scheme, including scheduling routine maintenance, inspections and repairs. Arranging inspections on lorry mounted cranes. Arranging driver`s delivery schedules and routes.
- Overall day to day management of yard staff and HGV drivers
- Manage receiving, issue and delivery of yard material stocks of various roofing materials, including assisting with booking in procedures at our client building sites.
- Managing general cleanliness, safety and structure of the yard storage facility including ensuring security of yard, offices and materials is maintained.
- Occasionally assisting with deliveries using LGV (holiday cover / urgent delivery cover)
- Carry out inspection, basic maintenance and arranging repair of company owned plant and equipment, including keeping equipment maintenance records and distribution records
- Issue and maintain records of PPE equipment issued to employees and contractors
- General inspection and records of forklifts used within the yard and arranging maintenance
- Perform selected office maintenance, and arrange contractors for maintenance of the yard, offices, storage buildings and parking areas. Ensuring deliveries of fuel or heating, waste removal, arranging routine annual inspection of fire extinguishers, fire routes and fire alarm testing and recording.
- Manage and assist in the movement of materials in the yard, loading / unloading delivery vehicles
- Liaise with H&S Manager in respect to H&S issues relating to the yard, stores and general office building. Identifying training needs of drivers and yard operatives.
- Liaise with Contract Managers, Buyer, Supervisors and operatives in respect to material and stock procurement and distribution.
- General Management Skills
- Driving License
- Basic Knowledge and use of computer software i.e. email, spreadsheets, databases
- Forklift Operators License
- Ability to identify malfunctioning equipment and recommend corrective measures and repair.
